VIDEO VS WRITTEN - EPISODE 2

I have somewhat stagnated my postings here because of a dilemma or paradoxical expression conundrum. I do believe that writing is one of the greatest achievements of mankind - humankind - whatever you want to call it. It allows for a direct recounting of information from generation without the loss of information. Now, I understand that the information can be bias dependent on the writer - no different than the story teller. Homer, himself, spoke of the Trojan War, where the Greeks where able to best the Trojans and their hubris wall. However, there is great debate that the event that Homer so gallantly tells even actually happened. His telling is the only account we have and his location of telling the story is coincided with his attempt to down play Anatolia success as he traveled along the Eastern Mediterranean rim. Whether it happened or not is not the point I wish to content at the moment - it is the passage of information from one generation to the next. Whether a story is true or false, right or wrong - becomes irrelevant once it enters into the written word. It is documented for generations to see and for the future to judge.

We have an opportunity that scores of generations prior did not. We have the opportunity to not only record the word but the tone, inflection, facial posture, and more that accompanies those coagulations of words. This allows for deeper meaning behind phrase, or a shallower response to a prying question. We are allowed to see that response as it was originally intended to be communicated. However, it also allows us to create narratives that possibly aren’t actually there.

Which is better? I am not sure but in any sense, I think that Episode 3 may be a video. I have a few topics that I have been mulling over and may post in a short video clip. Then again, perhaps that is the purpose behind the video. Garner more attention to topics through video than reading. Those who choose to read may be more involved in a topic than those who simply watch videos on it - or not. This is a struggle I entertain daily. Do I read a book physically or do I listen to it on tape? Is it the same quality interaction? It definitely allows for more consumption - audio vs reading.

I do not have the answer yet but am seeking it in each book I physically read vs each book I listen to. I challenge you, reader. Is there truly a difference cognitively or just a preference that we hang our education on? Do you we, as stated earlier, get more from video/audio than we do from reading a page with prescribed etchings that we have been conditioned to recognize as information?

Be Moved.

Rise Stronger.

Rise Deeper.
